Hello San Francisco!

So for the past couple months, we've been in the thick of moving and job searching.  The best news is Jonathan got a job teaching high school history!!!!!!  I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that my interviews turn into something good, and in the mean time we've been unpacking like crazy.

Our last night in SLO:

And hello San Francisco!

(I can pretend that's the view from our apartment, right?)

Awww siblings....

Last night we had our first dinner in our new kitchen!!  We had to squeeze around the dining table -- it doesn't QUITE fit --  but it totally worked! (Or at least that's what I tell myself...)  :)

More updates to come!

Love,

Lasagna Night!

Sunday afternoon:

I'm sitting on the couch, catching up on EXTREMELY important celebrity gossip, Jonathan's working on his laptop... Suddenly - lasagna. I had to have it! I went right to the store - all in all, it took like 4 hours, but I did it!

My usual view on a Saturday

Most Saturdays I try to work on writing for an hour or two at the Starbucks by my house. I started doing this a few months ago, and I'm so glad I did! I've found that I've really started looking forward to it. Writing buddy, anyone? :)

French Toast!

Well, it definitely seems like May has been the busiest month so far this year... job fairs, interviews, my car breaking down, chaperoning high school kids in Yosemite, my short story contest May 31 deadline, Jonathan's upcoming recital (and friends and family coming to town!!) ...

Lately I've been thinking a lot about my grandma, who recently fractured her hip and is now going through recovery. She definitely puts life in perspective - if I can be even half of what she is when I'm her age, I'll know I accomplished something amazing with my life. She is smarter than most people I know, and she's so warm and generous.. when you're around her you simply feel like life is better.

Whenever I'd stay at her house as a kid, she'd always make the best breakfasts - pancakes, waffles, anything! While I can never cook as well as she does, this was my attempt at a Nana-style, amazing, sweet breakfast feast! :)

Let's bring portrait painting back, please

I woke up early today & couldn't fall back asleep. Then I suddenly had the urge to watch Marie Antoinette again. What a great movie!

A few things:

1) Kirsten Dunst cannot act. (Shocking, I know!) She's great with unspoken emotions, facial expressions, etc, but as soon as she opens her mouth it feels forced. Maybe they should've made her have an accent.

2) I've found that I love looking up what lines from "historical" movies are direct quotes from that time period. If I was going to make a historical movie, I would try to get as many of these as I could.

3) Jonathan said that, apparently, on the day the Bastille fell, all Louis XVI wrote in his journal was "Went hunting today. Nothing."

4) I definitely think we need to bring back the custom of making portraits of people and giant paintings of historical events. Look at how awesome this is!

(Marie Antoinette with her children when the mob stormed the palace.)

And this one is a sketch that someone made while Marie Antoinette was waiting for the guillotine in 1793! Crazy. Doesn't that make you want to sketch anything & everything? Maybe 200 years later people will still look at it.

Stir Fry Night!

My favorite kind of night...
So easy, so tasty! What's not to love?

Oh & a special thanks to Uncle Ben and his microwaveable rice, which saved us from this situation which happens EVERY TIME:

Me: "I'm not going to burn the rice this time."
Jonathan: "(insert charming, witty quip)"
Me: "Nope, no sir, uh uh, not gonna burn it."
*30 minutes later*
Me yelling from the kitchen: "BAAAH!"

Seriously. Rice is the one thing I will always, ALWAYS screw up.

Inspired by Jenny...

I made One-Eyed Susans this morning - apparently they also call this Popeye, egg in a basket, toad in the hole, hen in a nest, cowboy egg, moon egg, and one-eyed jack. Yeah, that's right. I wikipediaed that.

This was one of the first things Jonathan ever made for me when we first met in the dorms. I had never had them before & didn't think I'd like it - now it's one of our favorite weekend breakfasts!

If you've never had it, all it is is a fried egg inside toast - one of my favorite parts is the little toasted bread square! I save it for the end. :)

Not Sure About This Blogging Thing..

But I'll give it a shot. I wish I had pictures to post but my iPhoto won't open. My computer is dying a slow death and I need to get it more memory! Then again, if I was going to post pictures, I don't know what they would be. I'm not quite sure what the point of my blog is yet. Hmm.

A few things going on in my life:

1) I'm taking piano lessons. I dread them, but they're good for me. I've 75% mastered The Entertainer and I'm moving on to brush up on Clair de Lune... I learned it 4 years ago, but now I feel like I have a different perspective on reading music so I want to re-learn it. :)

2) I've been trying to do more cooking. (Note: *trying)

3) I'm making it my life's mission to catch the cat who hangs out in the early morning in front of our apartment. Every week I open the door to go to work, just in time to see it's tail flinging around the corner. One of these days...
